Whispers of Splendor
Prepare to be swept away on an unforgettable journey as Shakespeare & Friends, alongside Tryon-based performing arts organizations, presents the Tony-nominated play Enchanted April this spring. From April 21st to April 24th, 2022, at the renowned Tryon Fine Arts Center, a remarkable collaboration between Tryon Fine Arts Center, Tryon Little Theater, Shakespeare & Friends, and Solstice Theater brings this beautiful production to life.
"As live theater comes back, we thought this was the perfect opportunity for our close-knit performing arts community to work together to bring this beautiful show to life," said the visionary director Catherine Gillet, showcasing the spirit of unity and artistic camaraderie.
Enchanted April, written by Matthew Barber and based on the beloved novel by Elizabeth von Arnim, unravels a captivating tale set in 1920s London. Follow four remarkable women who embark on a journey of self-discovery as they rent a villa in Italy, seeking solace from their desolate marriages. Amidst wisteria blossoms and the warm embrace of Mediterranean sunshine, they find themselves transformed in ways they never thought possible.
"The topic is so timely," shared the talented actress Laura Depta. "It's all about rediscovering a sense of freedom and joy after years of tragedy, a sentiment that resonates deeply with audiences."
Enchanted April earned a well-deserved nomination for Best Play at the 2003 Tony Awards and was honored with the prestigious John Gassner Award for Outstanding New American Play. The Los Angeles Times praised it as a "lush, thoroughly refreshing theatrical holiday," capturing the essence of its enchantment.
Mark your calendars for performances at 7:30 PM from Thursday, April 21st to Saturday, April 23rd, with a delightful Sunday matinee at 3 PM.
