Shakespeare & Friends presents the classic play A Doll’s House, March 21 through 23 at the Orchard Inn in Saluda, NC and March 25 and 26 at Asheville’s Attic Salt Theater.
The production of Henrik Ibsen’s masterpiece is directed by Shakespeare & Friends cofounder Catherine Gillet, with technical direction by Andy Millard and stage management by Darlene Cah.
Cast members include returning Shakespeare & Friends performers Michelle Newman, Anthony Abraira, Sonia D’Andrea, and Tod Leaven. Cast members Mollie Turner, Aaron Ybarra, and young actors Badger Burrell and Evan Baird will make their debut with Shakespeare & Friends.
“It’s a testament to the skill of playwright Henrik Ibsen-the father of modern drama-that this play from nearly 150 years ago still resonates with modern audiences,” said director Catherine Gillet. “This performance is unique in offering two very different stylistic interpretations of the play.”
March 21-23, A Doll’s House will be staged at the Orchard Inn in Saluda, NC.
“Seated inside a historic bed and breakfast, you will feel like you’re a guest in the Helmer family home,” said Gillet.
On March 25 and 26, the production will move to Asheville’s Attic Salt Theater for an evocative performance in the minimalist black box space.
All shows begin at 7:30 PM. Advanced tickets are recommended as seating is limited.
“This is the first time Shakespeare and Friends has taken a production ‘on tour’ like this,” said Gillet. “The opportunity to discover A Doll’s House with this talented cast in two different settings is a fascinating way to bring the story to life.”
This is the first time the Tryon-based Shakespeare & Friends theater company will offer performances in each of the venues. Shakespeare & Friends typically stages performances in Tryon’s Rogers Park.
